Syrian Migrant Situation Reminds Activists Of Croatian War Refugees

November 9th
International Day against Fascism and Antisemitism

Regarding this important international day, Women in Black are organizing the following activities:

Antifascist solidary visit to Pantić family's Memorial room, Vranic village near Belgrade - During the Second World War, in the night between 20th and 21st of December, 1943, Fascist Chetnik troops killed 68 residents of Vranic village, mostly members of the Pantic family. With this visit we express our deepest compassion with the families of innocent victims of fascist massacre and we foster a culture of memory. At the same time, we express the strongest protest against rehabilitation of Chetnik war criminals and quisling forces from the Second World War. The policy of rehabilitation and history revisionism denies the antifascist legacy and widens an already big space for ultra-rightist forces (neo-Nazi, antisemitic, xenophobic, clerofascist) on the state and societal level. We will continue to demand for legal sanctioning of these tendencies and movements and preserve the antifascist legacy and values.

Solidary visit to refugee reception center in Presevo – we express the most open protest against racist, fascist, xenophobic outbursts, and especially against physical attacks against the war refugees in Europe. This visit is another act of ours to warmly welcome the refugees from Middle East. Women, children and men are victims of war, persecutions, geostrategic colonial interests. With this solidary support, we continue our activities of offering modest humanitarian help, but most of all our friendship, care and attention to war refugees.

We organize the above mentioned actions with the support of:

Antifascist Association of Serbia,
Reconstruction Women's Fund from Belgrade,
activists of Women in Black Network of Serbia.

Belgrade, October 5, 2015

There were around ten of us from ŽUC. We arrived at the scene of the crime at about 8.30 am. There we were greeted by the family members of the victims. Across the street we also saw journalists and cameramen.
