WE REMEMBER WOMEN RAPED IN THE WAR IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA! PDF Print E-mail
Announcement for June 19 - The International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict

On June 19, 2018, the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict designated by the United Nations in 2015, Women in Black will pay a visit to Foca (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and organize a protest wearing all black and in silence.

With this protest Women in Black remind that:

  • • During the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina about twenty thousand women were raped. The most numerous victims were Bosnian Muslim women while the most numerous sex crime offenders were Bosnian Serbs.
  • • During the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina (1992-1996), Foča was the place of probably the biggest systematic sexual violence and rape in war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
  • • With its verdict to the Three from Foca (Kunarac, Kovač, Vuković) in 2001 the Court in The Hague has for the first time in history of international humanitarian law proclaimed sexual slavery in war a crime against humanity.

With this protest Women in Black continue to:

  • • Show solidarity and compassion towards women victims of sexual violence, to those murdered as well as those that survived.
  • • Support the policy of remembering as responsibility towards the crimes committed in our name during the war in Bosnia.

We remember women of Foca!
For dignity of the women victims of sexual violence in war!
