Dealing with the past / transitional justice - a feminist approach
Visiting the sites of crimes committed in our name, as well as other crimes against civilians committed during and after the war in the former Yugoslavia: nine (9) visits (Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia) to the following places, chronological overview:
- 11th February, Potočari/Srebrenica – visit to Memorial Center by activists and art collectives Škart and Kiosk from Belgrade;
- 27th, February, Prijepolje/Serbia – marking 32nd anniversary of crime in Štrpce against 20 persons (18 personas of Bosniak nationality, one Croat and one anonymous person) – travellers in train Belgrade-Bar;
- 25th May, Tuzla/Bosnia and Herzegovina - On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the crime at the Tuzla Gate; members of of the Republika Srpska Army carried out a massacre and 71 people and 240 peoples were wounded. All the victims were civilians and most of them were between 18 and 25 years old.
- 31st May and 1St June, Zvornik/BH – commemorations on the occasion of the 33nd anniversary of the crimes against Bosniak civilians committed by serb armed units;
- 7-10th July, Srebrenica "March of peace – the deadly route towards freedom", Nezuk - Potočari/Srebrenica, Bosna and Hercegovina; a tribute to the victims of genocide;
- 11th July – Srebrenica – 30th anniversary of the genocide;
- 5thOctober - Topčider/Belgrade – 21st anniversary of the crime - the murder of two guardsmen in the barracks in Topčider;
- 22nd October, Sjeverin (Serbia) – commemoration at Sjeverin/Mioče on the occasion of 33th anniversary of the crime against Bosniak civilians;
- 26th October, Ustikolina (B&H) – visit to the Memorial Complex 'The Hayir Fountain of Foča', a monument dedicated to more than 2,360 murdered bosniak residents of Foča.
Video activism: transitional justice – feminist approach
In this reporting period was made:
- We never shall forget Srebrenica genocide (Nikada nećemo zaboraviti genocid u Srebrenici (9 min.) – documentary movie of director Vladimir Šojat about WiB action “Serbia, look at yourself in the mirror: You will see Srebrenica! - 30 years – 30 years of mirrors“ in occasion of 30th anniversary of Srebrenica genocide.
- Tuzla/BH, May 26 - "Ramiz's summer" − documentary film (90 min.) about Ramiz Berbić, peace activist / WIB Network activist( poet from Donja Obodnica near Tuzla. Author of the film: Dejan Kožul, produced by the media production company K.U.P.E.K (Cultural and artistic program of educational character) ). WIB covered a part of this documentary.
Accountability for the Crimes - The Road to a Just Peace: Monitoring the Trial before the Special Court for War Crimes, Belgrade
We monitored four (4) cases, a total of twelfe (12) hearings for the following crimes committed on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina (3) and Croatia (1):
The Kravica War Crime - Eight members of the Special Brigade of the Republika Srpska Army have been charged with war crimes (the murder of 1,313 Bosnians, within the Srebrenica genocide, on July 13th, 1995). Trial began 2016, November 2017 was interrupted and was renewed until now.
Trial of Milorad Kotur - The defendant Milorad Kotur is a member of the reserve police force at the Bosanska Krupa Public Security Station. The indictment accuses M. Kotur of committing the following crimes from July 1992 to September 1992 in the Bosanska Krupa municipality against Bosniak and Croat civilians in concentration camp, municipalities Prijedor and Bosanska Krupa.
The trial of Milenko Živanović –The former general and commander of the Drina Corps of the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS) Milenko Živanović for war crimes against Bosniak civilians in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992 to 1995.
Krunoslav Fehir – Hrvatski državljanin optužen za pripadništvo oružanoj formaciji „Branimirova osječka bojna“ (BOB), koja je protivpravno lišavala slobode, zastrašivala, ubijala i zlostavljala civile srpske nacionalnosti u Osijeku/Hrvatska tokom 1991.
Other trials – In this period we monitored five (5) cases, a total of fourteen (14) hearings:
Trial of Miroslav Mika Aleksić for rape and sexual abuse, Belgrade - several former students of the "Matter of the Heart" acting school made accusations of rape and sexual abuse against their former acting teacher Miroslav Aleksić. The court proceedings against Aleksić began in February 2022 and in 2025 WIB attended eight (8) hearings.
Trials of rebellious citizens: activists of the student movement, as well as various civic initiatives against which the regime campaigns on various levels: regime media (demonization, stigmatization, false accusations...); criminal law (trials for alleged misdemeanor and criminal offenses) with the aim of intimidation and retaliation against all those who lead a just fight against corruption, organized crime, violence...
The trial of Milica Ojdanić, a student of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts/FDU from Belgrade, who was arrested on November 11, 2024 for participating in a protest against the demolition of the old Sava Bridge'. The prosecution withdrew (March 17) the indictment against Milica Ojdanić.
Trial for the attack on FDU students, March 26 - The main trial against the defendants: Milija Koldžić (SNS (Serbian people’s party - rulling party) official in the municipality of Novi Belgrade), Milena Aleksić and Ivan Stanišić, who are charged by the prosecution with the attack on students of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts/FDU, committed on November 20, 2024, during the traffic blockade in the Boulevard of the Arts, in front of FDU.
Trial of the "Novi Sad Twelve" - In the High Court in Novi Sad, Novemebr 24, 2025, the trial began of students and political anti regime political party "for preparing an act against the constitutional order and security of Serbia and calling for a violent change in the constitutional order".
The trial of "The Nine", December 8 - Before the High Court in Belgrade, the trial of the nine students who were arrested after the Vidovdan protest on June 28, 2025 began. They were accused committed the criminal offense of "preparing an act against the constitutional system and the security of Serbia in connection with the criminal act of calling for a violent change of the constitutional system as a co-perpetrator."
Women's Court – a feminist approach to Justice
The first Women's Court in the territory of Europe was held in Sarajevo, May 7 to May 10, 2015, organized by 10 women's groups from the territory of the former Yugoslavia. WiB coordinated the five-year organization process, as well as the continuation of the W’sC process (W’sC witness network, regional meetings, public W’sC presentations; mothers for peace in solidarity, feminist ethics of care, etc.
During 2025, one (1) W’sC regional meeting was held, as well as other activities:
Regional meeting of Women's Court – a feminist approach to justice - Sarajevo, May 9, 10 and 11 - 31 women participated in the twenty-first (21) Regional meeting: witnesses, organizers, therapists, associates from Bosnia and Herzegovina (Đulići, Klisa, Foča/Sarajevo, Srebrenica, Tuzla); Montenegro (Pljevlja, Kotor, Herceg Novi, Nikšić, Bijelo Polje); Croatia (Zagreb); Serbia (Belgrade, Pančevo, Kruševac, Leskovac, Prijepolje) and Germany (Berlin).
Feminist ethics of care and responsibility – visits of WiB activists to female witnesses (W’sC Sarajevo), peace meetings - support for victims. In this reporting period, WiB organized eleven (11) events/encounters:
April 26, Bečej – solidarity visit to Julia Teleki, anti-war activist, participant in the process of organizing the W’sC .
April 27 – Vršac/Vojvodina - visit to Rosa Jakovljević, witness at the W’sC, mother of the murdered soldier (October 5, 2004).
July 13, 14 and 15 - Retreat/socializing – Nine (9) witnesses, organizers of the Women's Court from Montenegro and Serbia, as well as activists from Israel and Palestine were on July 13, 14 and 15 on a joint short break in the village near Ivanjica (central Serbia).
July, 30, Vršac/Vojvodina – four WiB activists visited Rosa Jakovljević, witness in Women’s Court, mother of soldier killed (5,10, 2004).
July 28 to August 14 - Active women’s holiday in the women’s house 'Seka' Brač/Croatia; thirteen (13) women - witnesses, W’sC activists from BH, Croatia and Serbia spent holiday together.
September 25th – Ervina and Ljupka, feminist therapists of W’sC visited and stayed with Mother Mejra in Bihać (Western Bosnia). Mother Mejra (Mejra Dautović), a woman whose two children (daughter and son) were tortured and killed in the Omarska camp in 1992.
September 26, 27 and 28, Đulići (Eastern Bosnia) – encounter of feminist ethics of care as a continuation of cooperation with witnesses at the Women's Court and support for women.
Setember 28 and November 22, Vršac/Vojvodina - visit to Rosa Jakovljević, witness at the W’sC, mother of the murdered soldier (October 5, 2004).
Women’s Court – Foča case – this event took place in Belgrade, June 26, 2023 in Miljenko Dereta Space and was organized by: Women in Black and Autonomous Women’s Centre, Belgrade in cooperation with feminist groups from B&H, Montenegro, Croatia, associates of Women’s Court, as well as artistic-activist collectives: Škart, Dah Theatre, Belgrade and Art Clinic, Novi Sad. This event was attended by seventy (70) persons from whole region, as well as from European and Australia.
Women’s Court – Foča case – was dedicated to sexual crimes, because during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina (1992-1995), Foča was a place of systematic sexual violence and rape. Based on Foča case, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia stated that sexual slavery is to be considered a crime against humanity.
In Women’s Court – Foča case - the following persons testified: Ilvana Konjo, Zenija Hajdarević, Halida Konjo Uzunović and Kemalemir Frašto, while W'sC associates interpreted the political context based on the testimony.
In this reporting period were held three (3) Public presentations Women's Court - the case of Foča with the participation of 127 persons. Public presentation/PP of Women’s Court – the case of Foča consists of several segments: about feminist approach to justice; history, process of organizing Women's Courts, activities in the continuation of the process, effects of W’sC; Women's Court – the case of Foča, 2023 - screening of a documentary film (42 min.), witnesses talk about their experience testifying at the Women's Court in Belgrade; conversation with audience etc.
Here are the dates and the venues of the Public Presentations/PP in chronological order:
- Lubiana/Slovenia, January 24, 2025 – organized by PLAC (Participative Ljubljana Autonomous Zone) and Women in Black, Belgrade was held in PLAC premises in the presence of 35
- Belgrade, June 25 – The Youth Initiative/YIHR organized an educational cycle on sexual violence in war, and within this program the Women's Court - the case of Foča was presented. This event was attended by twenty (20) young people from all over Serbia.
- Novi Pazar (Serbia), October 24 - The public presentation was held in the Bosniak National Council in the presence of 72 people from Serbia: Novi Pazar, Sjenica, Prijepolje, Priboj na Limu, Nova Varoš, Kraljevo, Pančevo, Novi Sad, Belgrade; Kosovo (Pristina); Montenegro (Herceg Novi, Kotor and Podgorica).
Dealing with Past – feminist approach (educational programs, joint reflection, remembering anti-war resistance during the 90s; book promotions organized by WiB and related civil society organizations). We list them chronologically:
- February 11, Memorial Centre Potočari/Srebrenica − joint visit to the Memorial Centre, meeting with the women of Srebrenica housed in the Centre for the Elderly 'Hatidža Mehmedović', opened with the intention that the mothers of Srebrenica, who are left without relatives, will be cared for in their old age. In this encounter took part twenty (20), mostly women: from Srebrenica (witnesses at W’sC); WiB activists, women from association ‘Anima’, art collective Škart and Kiosk from Belgrade and few activities were organized.
- Ada, April 26, − We remember the anti-war resistance – a peace meeting in Ada/Vojvodina on April 26. This peace meeting was held on the occasion of the second death anniversary of Istvan Vebel (1945-2022) anti-war activist. Together with his wife Vera Vebel Tatić (1945-2020) he initiated and organized of a large number of anti-war protests in Ada and in general in Potisje and Vojvodina, during 90s. Eight (8) activists from Sombor, Trešnjevac, Zrenjanin and Belgrade participated in this peace meeting.
- Bečići, Crna Gora, May 12.-16. and September 29 to October 3 - Working meetings within the regional project (Autonomous Women's Centre, WiB and Youth Initiative for Human Rights) and women's groups from Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina 'Amplifying Voices by Women affected by war-related SGBV in the Western Balkans – For a culture of Recognition and Reconciliation. The central theme of the meeting was 'Reflections on Feminist Dealing with the Past'. Staša Z. participated on behalf of WiB.
Promotion of the book Alone on the Street: Selected Texts of Bojan Tončić (1967-2024); editor: Tomislav Marković; the book was published by friends of the deceased journalist, Belgrade (May 2025). Bojan Tončić was one of the most relevant journalist, wrote mostly about war crimes, antimilitarist, antifascist, collaborator of WiB.
During 2025. were held five (5) promotions in following places:
- Belgrad, May 8 – this event was atended by app. 70 persons;
- Zagreb, September 26 – 20 persons;
- Belgrade, October 11 – attended by 75 persons (WiB Network meeting);
- Leskovac, October 21 – 21 persons;
- Novi Pazar, October 25 – 45 persons from Serbia and Montenegro.
- in 2024 two (2) meetings were held with the participation of 115 activists:
Women in Black Network Meetings - in 2025 were held two meetings with participation of 145 activists:
The meeting of the Women in Black Network was held on April 4, 5 and 6, 2025 in Radmilovac near Belgrade. The meeting was attended by 68 people from: Bosnia and Herzegovina (Tuzla, Sarajevo, Zvornik); Montenegro (Kotor, Pljevlja); Croatia (Zagreb); Kosovo (Gjakova/Djakovica); Israel (Haifa); Palestine (Bethlehem); Poland (Krakow); Slovenia (Ljubljana); Serbia (Priboj na Limu, Belgrade, Sarajevo, Kruševac, Zrenjanin, Novi Sad, Sombor, Leskovac, Bajina Bašta, Novi Pazar, Kraljevo, Pančevo, Vlasotince).
The meeting of the Women in Black Network was held on October 10, 11 and 12, 2025 in Radmilovac near Belgrade. The meeting was attended by 77 people from 28 cities from the following countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina (Srebrenica, Sarajevo, Tuzla, Zvornik, Banja Luka, Mostar, Zenica); Montenegro (Pljevlja); Croatia (Zagreb); Kosovo (Prizren/London); Italy (Bologna); Germany (Berlin); Palestine (Ramallah); Slovenia (Ljubljana); Serbia (Belgrade, Kruševac, Novi Pazar, Novi Sad, Leskovac, Sombor, Subotica, Pančevo, Priboj, Bajina Bašta, Vlasotince, Prijepolje, Kraljevo, Ruma).
Educational programs, peace gatherings, women's peace activism, discussion circles - organized by WiB and related civil society organizations. In this period we organized eight (8) events with the participation of 210 persons.
We list them chronologically:
- January, 25. Lubiana/Slovenia – Friendship gathering organized by WIB, Beegrade and alternative center PLAC, Lubiana. This event was attended by 35 osoba from Slovenia (Lubiana, Maribor, Sežana, Ptuj); Croatia (Zagreb) and Serbia (Belgrade, Novi Sad, Novi Pazar).
- Women's Peace activism, Đulići (Bosnia and Hercegovina) – two (2) meetings were held within this educational program (running since the beginning of 2016): April 28 and December 22 with the participation of 40 women from about ten places in the Zvornik area, Eastern Bosnia.
- Women's Peace activism - Opovo/Vojvodina, June 6, 7 and 8 - in this feminist discussion circle took part 22 women from Serbia (towns: Belgrade, Zrenjanin, Kruševac, Priboj na Limu, Kraljevo, Sombor, Prijepolje).
- Women's Peace activism - October 3, 4 and 5 in Belgrade, with the participation of 19 women from B&H (Đulići and Tuzla) and WiB Network activists (Belgrade, Kruševac, Leskovac, Kraljevo).
- Peace encounter, Leskovac, October 21 – took place in the premises of Radio 016, organized by WiB Belgrade, Nena – group for peace and women’s rights and civic association ‘I ja se pitam’, Leskovac; this encounter was attended 21 persons from Bujanovac, Leskovac, Vlasotince and Belgrade.
- Novi Pazar, October, 25 May 17, 18 and 19, Novi Pazar - Seventh regional meeting – What is to be done? – discussion circle, is a continuation of the joint action of Women in Black (Belgrade) and the Centre for Women's and Peace Education 'Anima' (Kotor) and the Academic initiative "Forum 10" from Novi Pazar. The event was held in Cultural Center and was attended 45 participants Serbia (Novi Pazar, Prijepolje, Priboj, Nova Varoš, Bajina Bašta, Belgrade, Novi Sad), Montenegro (Podgorica, Kotor, Herceg Novi) and Kosovo (Pristina).
- Women's Peace activism, December 6 and 7 in Radmilovcu near Belgrade; participated 28 women from: B&H (Đulići, area Zvornik); MontenegroCrne Gore (Pljevlja); Hrvatske (Zagreb) i Srbije (Kruševac, Beograd, Leskovac, Vlasotince, Prijepolje, Priboj, Novi Pazar).
“Wednesdays at WiB” - roundtable discussions, lectures and debates in the Women in Black premises
The practice of regular discussion circles, lectures and joint reflections on important social and political issues in the country and the world, book promotions, film screenings, etc. During 2025, 38 events were organized in which 605 people participated. In these roundtable discussions several thematic cycles were held: about actual political events in Serbia; international policy was dedicated to war zones (cycle ‘War in Middle East’ focussed to genocide in Gaza, as well as to anti-war resistance in Israel, followed by documentaries; testimonies of people from Palestine); ); feminist issues’- ‘16 days of activism against violence against women; Memory day on women-war victims in B&H); cycle ‘Ethic of care – controversies and challenges’); cycle (IN)visible SFR Yugoslavia; reading circles etc.
Solidarity is our strength - with members of endangered and disenfranchised minority communities (social-class, ethnic-racial, sexual), citizens whose human rights (labour, educational, cultural) are threatened.
Solidarity with War Refugees from the Middle East - Women in Black began in 2013 when we organized solidarity actions against racist attacks that culminated in late 2013.

Direct actions – solidarity actions consist of few segments:
I Solidarity support and assistance to Palestinian refugees from GAZA: WiB has established contacts since March 2024 with refugees who arrived from this war zone. In this reporting period WiB organized six (6) visits:
- Places near Belgrade: February 1, April 11. i 27. april, Septembar 1 (Jakovo); December 25 (Sremčica);
- Novi Pazar – October,
II Solidarity support and assistance to Ukrainian refugees – since the beginning of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, in February 2022, WiB has established contacts with Ukrainian refugees, providing humanitarian aid and support in Vranje; in this reporting period three (3) visits were organized:
- Solidarity visits to the reception Centre for refugees in Vranje: October 19, December 3 and 24. WiB Network activists from Leskovac and Vlasotince visited the refugee Centre where 60 refugees, predominantly women and children from Ukraine, are staying; humanitarian aid was distributed on this occasion.
III Solidarnost sa ruskim izbeglicama - Vodič za rusku zajednicu u Srbiju - U okviru projekta sprovedeno je online istraživanje putem anonimnog upitnika, a rezultati su korišćeni za izradu sveobuhvatnog vodiča namenjenog ruskoj zajednici u Srbiji. Ovaj vodič pruža informacije o pravima, korisnim kontaktima i praktičnim savetima za integraciju i pravnu zaštitu.
Solidarity support for students –Students’ blockades of all universities in Serbia (which involve around 60 faculties in Serbia) since mid-November 2024. Students demand accountability for the fall of the canopy at the Novi Sad railway station, which 15 people were killed (November 1, 2024). They demand the identification and sanctioning of those responsible for attacks on students, an increase in the percentage of funding from the education budget. Women in Black support justified demands of students by participating in street protests, announcements, as well as modest humanitarian aid:
October 30th - on the eve of the anniversary of the tragedy in Novi Sad, on October 30, WiB delivered medical aid. The students on lockdown published a list of first aid supplies for walking to Novi Sad, and this was delivered to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and to the point in Ruma. The same was done at the checkpoint in Ruma, where students who were walking to Novi Sad were gathering. WiB activists also attended the anniversary of the tragedy in Novi Sad.
Publishing activities - In this reporting period, we published four (4) following publications:
“The Exiles” - promotion of a collection of poetry by Ramiz Berbić, poet, singer, peace activist, internationalist; the collection contains 25 poems by R. Berbić, dedicated to the struggle for human rights, for peace, for the dignity of the marginalized, discriminated against, especially refugees and migrants, and the LGBT community; the review was written by: Lino Veljak, philosopher; layout: Studio Čavka, Cover: Škart; the book has 48 pages, and the photographs are from R. Berbić's protest vigils in Tuzla.

The Women's Peace Agenda for 2026 - briefly and concisely presents our trajectory - 35 years of disobedience to all forms of patriarchy - war, nationalism, fascism, militarism...
The Women's Peace Agenda for 2026 - presents a very concise overview of the activities of Women in Black/WiB: from the ethical principles of our peace policy, through peace networks, coalitions (feminist-anti-militaristic, anti-nationalist / anti-fascist / internationalist).
The Women's Peace Agenda for 2026 - devotes the largest part to activities related to dealing with the past from a feminist perspective: to practices that we have invented during long and persistent work in the field through a policy of active solidarity with victims of war and war crimes, primarily those committed in our name, as well as all others. Feminist models of justice (primarily the Women's Court) are also briefly presented.
Women's Peace Agenda for 2026 - also provides a brief overview of the practices of active solidarity with the marginalized and oppressed on gender/class/race grounds; it also briefly presents the extensive publishing activity - our alternative history etc.

Munira's speech – speech by Munira Subašić, president of the Movement of Mothers of the Srebrenica and Žepa Enclaves, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide. "The historic speech by Munira Subasic on the thirtieth anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide on July 11, 2025, is inscribed as a testimony to female heroism – it obliges us to talk about it, to convey it as courage and humanity, as care and justice not only for Srebrenica, but also for all of humanity" (from the publication). The speech has been translated into 10 languages, the publication was edited by: Fahrudin Kladničanin and Staša Zajović; design and layout: Škart; photos from the WiB archive, the publication has 62 pages.
Book – translation: „Building Human Relations Trough Art: art collective Škart (Belgrade) – since 1990' till now“; author: Seda Ildiz. This book has 268 pages, printed in 500 copies.
