Solidarity with the ANTIFA protests in the USA - Justice for George Floyd!

Women in Black, Belgrade and the Civil Action, Pancevo are organizing a protest in silence and wearing all black called Solidarity with the ANTIFA protests in the USA - Justice for George Floyd, on Monday June 8, 2020 in Knez Mihailova Street in Belgrade.

On May 25, 2020 a white police officer killed an African-American man called George Floyd in the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The police officer, who has a long history of racist hate crimes, had applied pressure to the neck of the victim with his knee for full nine minutes. The victim couldn’t breathe and died from a heart attack.

The murder was followed by massive antifascist and antiracist protests in the USA, as well as worldwide where the protests were organized in solidarity and support for the protests against violence.

The USA have a long history of racist violence but also a long history of resistance. The contemporary American movement for civil rights was born in the 1950s while demanding for black people to enjoy equal treatment in the eyes of the law. The fight ended by passing the Civil Rights Act in 1964. Unfortunately, the Act is being broken on an everyday basis. The police brutality that’s being applied against non-white citizens of the US clearly shows that their lives are worth less in that country.

Women in Black and the Civil Action support the requests of the protesters:
- - the perpetrator of this murder as well as all other racially based murders to be judged and adequately punished;
- the police to stop using force against the protesters;
- to put a halt to the criminalization of the ANTIFA protests and all those who participate in them;
- the justified protests not to be stopped with further militarization.

Solidarity with the ANTIFA protests in the USA - Justice for George Floyd!
