ANNOUNCEMENT

MOBILIZE! ORGANIZE! RESIST!
An Action of Global Solidarity

The Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence is June 2nd-8th. Gun violence is a global epidemic. A thousand people die each day due to gun violence. Women in Black – Belgrade has called for demilitarization since its creation and has long been an active member of the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA). Women in Black – Belgrade will join the global community this week in calling for an end to all gun violence.

Each year another eight million guns are produced worldwide. These guns are sold to individuals, armies, and groups who use them for armed conflicts, organized crime, and violence. Women in Black – Belgrade will use this street action to denounce the Serbian military industry’s recent deal to export arms to Iraq. Women in Black will call for the complete demilitarization of society. We will demand an end to the illegal arms trade within Serbia and worldwide.

Women in Black – Belgrade will call for the inclusion of women in all decision-making processes on all levels as outlined in the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325. We will continue to call on government institutions discontinue the use of the traditional definition of security and the adoption of the concept of human security.

Please join us at Republic Square for our street peace action ‘Mobilize! Organize! Resist!’ on Friday, June 6, 2008 at 7 pm.
