Street actions: In this reporting period, we organised the following antiwar, antiracist, antifascist, anti-homophobia, feminist-antimilitarist actions:
October 5th, Belgrade: In solidarity with the families of two murdered soldiers, Women in Black commemorate the death of Dražen Milovanović and Dragan Jakovljević every year. Two soldiers, members of The Army of Republic of Serbia, were murdered in army base in Topčider in 2004. We demand from the representatives of state institutions to determine the cause of death of these two soldiers; some suspect that they were killed because they may have seen Ratko Mladić in the army base in Topčider.
October 7th, Belgrade: “Always disobedient – we leave the trail”, vigil at the Republic Square in Belgrade. More that 200 international activists from Israel (Jerusalem, Megiddo), Great Britain (London), Spain (Seville), Italy (Milano, Torino, Verona, Udine, Scio, Treviso), Greece (Athens), Germany (Berlin), France (Nancy),Sweden (Stockholm), Croatia (Zagreb, Poreč, Split, Pakrac), Bosnia and Herzegovina (Sarajevo, Bihać, Goražde, Tuzla, Đulići, Klica, Bratunac, Zenica), Crne Montenegro (Kotor, Herceg Novi, Podgorica, Nikšić, Cetinje, Pljevlja), Kosovo (Priština), Macedonia (Skoplje), and Serbia (Novi Sad, Niš, Leskovac, Kruševac, Belgrade, Prijepolje, Vlasotince, Dimitrovgrad, Pirot, Novi Bečej, Pančevo) were present.
October 9th, Belgrade, Serbia: exhibition "Always Disobedient", open at the Centre for the Cultural Decontamination in Belgrade, with the anthem of WiB “Always Disobedient”, performed by WiB activists and the members of the choir “Proba”, with the help of the visitors of the exhibition. The exhibition was the presentation of different segments of the specific aesthetics of resistance, that WiB have been building for last 20 years, along with engaged artists and art associations: Škart, DAH theatre, quire “Proba”, Four faces of Omarska/Četiri lica Omarske, etc...
18. October, Lovas, Croatia: commemoration on the 20th anniversary of the killing of 70 Croatian citizens; eights (8) WiB Network Serbia activists attended the commemoration.
19. October, Belgrade, Serbia – in front of the building of the Government of Republic of Serbia, WiB activists attended the protest “It is enough!”, organised by Gay-Straight Alliance, after the attempted murder of one lesbian in Belgrade.
November 9th, Belgrade, Serbia: “Antifascism is my choice” on the International day of action against fascism and anti-Semitism, Women in Black organized the street action in front of the monument to antifascists shot during the Second World War, in Belgrade. On that occasion, WiB activists laid red roses, as a sign of respect for the hanged antifascists.
November 9th, Belgrade, Serbia: On the International Day Against fascism and anti-Semitism, activists and artists of Women in Black and Art Clinic (Novi Sad) had artistic-activist action “The Threshold of Srebrenica” in Srebrenicka street in Belgrade, a commemorative action to the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica (1995). The activists and artists all crossed over a wooden threshold, work of Art Clinic artists that had highlighted number that represents Bosniaks killed in the genocide - 8372. "Threshold" was borrowed from the October Salon, where it was the part of Art Clinic exhibition, along with the banner "Responsibility", held during Women in Black’s street actions.
November 18th, Belgrade, Serbia: “We will never forget the crimes committed in Vukovar”, peace action, in black and in silence, at the Republic Square in Belgrade, on the 20th anniversary of the fall of Vukovar. The activists held banners "Solidarity", "Responsibility" and "We will never forget the victims of Vukovar". On the 20th anniversary of the crimes committed in Vukovar, we demanded, one more time, from the Serbian authorities, to reveal the truth about war crimes committed in this town.
November 19th, Vukovar, Croatia: The commemoration of the 20 anniversary of crimes committed in Vukovar. Together with the families of victims and survivors of crimes in Vukovar, WiB Netowrk activists visited the scenes of crimes: Ovčara Memorial and Documentation Center, Dalj, Borovo naselje, banks of the Danube River, and so on. Twenty (20) Women in Black Serbia activists and the members of associated civil society organization in Serbia took part in the commemoration of crimes in Vukovar.
November 25th, Belgrade, Serbia: The beginning of the campaign “16 Days of Activism against Violence against Women” at the Republic Square, called “Tired!” about the psychological violence against women, by DAH Theatre. The campaign is also organized in other cities in Serbia. Campaign organizers are Autonomous Women’s Center, Reconstruction Women's Fund, the activist group ACT Women – artistic-activist group of women and the Network of Women against Violence, while Women in Black activists from Belgrade, and the Network of Women in Black provided active support to this campaign.
December 6th, Belgrade (Serbia) and Kotor (Montenegro): “We recall the killing o fa town and its people", peace action on the twentieth anniversary of the aggression on Dubrovnik. Two organizations had a synchronized street action called “We recall the killing of a town and its people" in Kotor (Square of Arms) and Belgrade (Republic Square), as a commemoration to the victims of crimes committed in Dubrovnik. On that occasion, the activists sent a request to the authorities of Serbia and Montenegro to indict those responsible for crimes committed in Dubrovnik.
December 11th Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina: Participation in the peace rally and march "We are looking for our missing ones - do not forget Srebrenica," which is organized by Citizens' Association "Women of Srebrenica" in Tuzla on the eleventh of each month. This time, fifteen Women in Black from Serbia activists and one activist from Montenegro attended the peaceful protest.
December 23rd, Belgrade, Serbia: Association of the citizens of Syria in Serbia organised a protest “Stop to the killing of innocent citizens in Syria”, in front of the Syrian Embassy in Belgrade. Protest is organised against the regime of Bashar Al Asaad. WiB activists gave support to the organisers and attended a street protest.
