A group of NGOs from Serbia, including the G8 coalition, agree that Kosovo has been de facto independent since 1999, which international community will certainly recognize. Women in Black reporter Marija Perkovic, asseted that territory and borders are much more important to the Serbia state than respect for human rights. According to her words, the status of Kosova must be resolved as soon as possible - and it will surely be independent. The will of the majority must be respected, as well as assurances extended to the minority, added Perkovic.
The President of the Helskinki Committee for Human Rights, Izabela Kisic, said that Kosovar society is different from how it is traditionally thought of in Serbia: “the society is modernizing, urbanizing; young people are studying abroad and coming back to Kosovo to change it,” she added, mentioning that the average Kosova resident is 27 years old.
Goran Begunovic of the Social Democratic Union said that the youth of his party has cooperated with the youth parliamentary parties in the Aseembly of Kosova, and that Kosovar society has progressed much more than the media in Serbia claims. “On many issues we are closer to the youth of Veton Suroi’s party than the youth of the Democratic Party,” said Bogunovic.
